Field notes
Day 1: land, pick a base, eat
Base in Old San Juan, Condado, or Isla Verde. Old San Juan wins for walkable first-trip texture, Condado wins for broad convenience, and Isla Verde wins for beach/airport timing. Use the SJU airport arrival guide to avoid renting a car before you need one. Do not hotel-hop on a short weekend.
First night: make food the orientation
Walk the historic core, choose one food stop, and keep the first night simple. If you want the lowest-friction move, start with the Old San Juan food-tour route, then let mofongo and malta become the specific details instead of building a restaurant spreadsheet.
Day 2: one big memory
Pick El Yunque, bio bay, catamaran, or the Caguas detour. Do not stack three high-effort activities in one day.
Day 3: brunch and beach buffer
Leave room for late checkout, beach time, souvenirs, and airport reality. If the flight is early, Isla Verde may beat the more romantic Old San Juan choice. If the flight is late, use the extra hours for one final walk or beach stop instead of another far-flung errand.
